Six years ago, Amy walked into a shiva and had a conversation that would change her life. She met a genealogist, Stanley Diamond, who told her about a case he had just closed. A woman named Maria knew she had been found by the side of the road in 1941 Poland, but had no idea what became of her original family. Stanley and his genealogy colleagues successfully identified both branches of Maria's family tree, including many living cousins who embraced a woman that until now they never knew existed. In this talk, Amy will discuss why this story was so riveting to her, and how she spent years working with Stanley and documenting his legacy. Suggestions for telling your stories will be included as well.

Amy Fish is a born storyteller with a tendency to over-research. Her latest book, "One in Six Million: A Baby by the Roadside and the Man Who Retraced a Holocaust Survivor's Lost Identity" (Goose Lane Editions 2025) has been called "a stunning achievement that interlaces the dark shadows of the Holocaust with the redemptive light of discovery." Amy's work has appeared in Reader's Digest, Costco Connection and Mitzvah Market Magazine. She is the Ombudsperson at Concordia University in Montreal, where she lives with her family. This is her fourth book.
